Friends of HPL Minutes, Sept. 19, 2019

Present: Ellie Davids, Maureen Rekrut, Liz Vezina, Nick Berry, Helen Gallagher, Tim Rowe, Jen Mabee

Call to Order: Began @ 6pm. Ended @ 8pm.

Minutes: Accepted as corrected. *Corrections made to: Present – Maureen Rekrut and Jen Mabee added. Publicity – Nick updates Facebook. Liz updates webpage.

Financial Report: Balance = $2420.00

*Approx. $125.00 will be due for building of Little Free Library.

*Account is now accessible with change-over of BOT Treasurer.

Programming Report:

*Storytime and Puppet Show continues on Sat. mornings.

*Kids craft days continue once a month after Storytime. Oct. 19 – Print Art with Beth Clark.

Nov. 16 – Paint Science with Jen Mabee. Dec. 21 – Decorating cookies with Jen Mabee. {Cookies Needed}

*Sewing with Patience will begin meeting every Thurs. @ 3:30pm. Nick and Liz will assist Patience with advertising. Nekeisha Rowe donated a sewing machine.

*Let’s Talk About It ends on Tues. Sept. 24. The book discussion group continues to meet on the last Tues. of the month with a fresh new book list.


*Helen continues write-ups in the RTE.

School Liaison:

*Liz recently met with Somerset Valley Elementary Principal Ellen Surprenant and Reading Specialist Mary Beth Schanck to discuss future collaboration between the school and the library. Nick will give tours to the students. Liz and Helen will attend the Open House on Sept. 27 @ 2pm to promote the library amongst parents, teachers, and students. The school will send home library membership applications with students.

*The Volunteer Reading program is set to begin the second week of Oct. There are two upcoming training sessions on Fri. Sept. 27 @ 9am and 1pm. Anyone interested should contact Liz.

*Liz and Nick are trying to arrange tutoring sessions for students and possibly seniors.

*The school plans to have the summer school students attend the Summer Reading Program.

Old Business:

*We are hoping to dedicate the Little Free Library at the bicentennial celebration next spring.

*Financial Discussion – Maureen will bring a proposed budget for the year to the annual meeting. Suggested costs include: honoraria, office supplies, park pass, website, as well as a $500.00 Emergency Fund.

*Communications with BOT: Monthly meeting minutes will be sent to BOT. Kathie will also write up a summary to be read at the quarterly BOT meeting. Ellie will attend the Oct. meeting, with Jen attending thereafter. The BOT meets on the 1st Wed. of each quarter.

New Business:

*Bylaws were reviewed and amended by Ellie, Kathie, Maureen, and Jen. Amendments were reviewed and adopted by a unanimous vote.

*FOL will participate in the craft fair to benefit the Hartland Children’s Christmas Fund. The craft fair takes place at the Community Center on Sat. Dec. 7th from 9am – 2pm. {craft donations needed}

*FOL goals to be revisited at next meeting.

Next Meeting: Thurs. Oct. 17, 2019 *This is our annual meeting. Refreshments will be served.
