Friends of the Hartland Public Library Meeting
May 17, 2018
Present: Nick Berry, Beth Clark, Kathie Clark, Ellie Davids, Irene White, Helen Gallagher, Maureen Rekrut, Tim Rowe, and Liz Vezina

Call to order
We welcomed two new members: Irene White and Maureen Rekrut.
Meeting began @ 6 pm

Minutes from 3/15/18
Kathie had sent them, but no one had received them.
Kathie will send them again.

Appreciation
All who worked on Reading Fair, Liz for website, Tim for rainsticks, Irene for caring for the plants, Nick for all his work on Summer Reading Program, Ellie and Liz for posting flyers.

Financial Report
Reimburse Liz for website $59; $10 income from yard sale; members agree Beth should allow Friends to reimburse her.
Beginning balance: $601.14
Ending balance: $552.14

Website looks nice! Hartlandpubliclibrary.org
Bulletin Boards: Read ME, Pen Pals – With Hartland, WI, to start 6/18
Helen continues with RTE updates.
Summer Reading Program –
Liz and Helen will deliver flyers to schools. Nick will procure Seadog tickets.

Fund Raising
Yard Sale, 6/2, 9 am to 1 pm
Set up on Friday, June 1.

Programs
“Africa & Beyond” very well received. Check out Artisans shop in Skowhegan.
Bird Houses with Jeannie Nichols – 5/19. Kathie will help.
DMC bracelets with Melody Braley – Sat., 6/9, 11 am; Beth will help.
Hawk Talks with Marek Plater. Maureen mentioned H Is for Hawk to read. HPL has this book. Thursday, July 19, 6:30 pm.
Paint Night with Jessie Butler. Nick will check with Jessie.
Summer Reading Program – Ready to go! Sign-up 6/18. See last month’s minutes.
Read ME
Int’l Peace Day: Beth plans a presentation from 10am to noon with peace songs, dove cookies, origami cranes, info on Samantha Smith – Sat., 9/22. Beth will get music to Kathie.
Display Case: We’ve had dolls & shells; discussed other collections. Kathie will ask Al Welch if he’d display some of his minerals.

Old Business
Re officers, Beth is willing to continue to chair, Maureen to be treasurer, Kathie to take minutes, Irene re plants, Helen on publicity, Liz as school liaison, Ellie as VP

New Business

Beth’s plumber, Rick White, does metal detecting. Has interesting stories. He may give a talk next fall.
Irene notes an urn for cigarette butts by the outdoor bench would neaten up that area. Kathie will bring one.
Concern regarding ants in the red maple tree. Neighbor would like to trim lilacs obstructing visibility to roadway. Beth will talk with Wayne Libby regarding concerns regarding tree and lilacs.

Other
Nevola Symposium focusing on Civility. Beth will attend session for libraries.
The library sign was damaged again. Jeannie Nichols may re-paint it.
