Friends of HPL, Minutes of 3/21/19 Meeting
Present: David Bernard, his guest Diane, Nick Berry, Beth Clark, John Clark, Kathie Clark, Ellie Davids, Helen Gallagher, Jen Mabee, Tim Rowe
Call to Order
6 pm. Adjourned 8 pm
Income: $35 (membership), Expenses: none
Group met 3/6. USDA and many other grants are available. Chris L. MAY be able to get a $million grant and then offer HPL a long-term lease for $1.00.
Nick is very busy researching the many grants.
Beth reports 4 volunteers are reading with individuals at St. Albans School weekly.
Family Reading Carnival, 4/6, 10:30-1. 16 boxes of new books were donated by a publisher, and more coming from Literacy Volunteers. Helen and Kathie will help sort 3/23. John and Beth will go with Ellie 3/27 to Bangor. Many activities are planned. Nick and Beth will have tables. Jen, Faith, and John will lead Readers’ Theater.
Community Reads, 5/3 or 31. David will participate.
Library Tour: not yet.
Yard/Book/Plant Sale is tentatively Sat., 6/1, 9 to 1.
Please collect stuff!
Read to Me: not much feedback, but increased awareness. RBG movie and Ceramic coasters very good.
With Needles and Patience will begin Thur., 3/28, 3 to 4:30 pm. Weekly offerings of a variety of projects with Patience Bailey.
Lyme Disease presentation by John, Thurs., 4/11, 5-7 pm. Can you bring light refreshments?
May: Fish biologist Wes Ashe? (?Marek, Julie)
June/July: Michael Rekrut, Hiking in Nepal?
Let’s Talk About It, end of summer. Meet with facilitator to discuss 5 chosen books.
Educational Legos with Nick during April vacation. Pre-register. Age 4-12. Could be displayed in glass case. Jen and Faith will help.
Summer Reading Program. Lots of projects: art, telescope, rockets(?), ME Discovery Museum; planetarium (Nick will ask Chris about having it on town land; David will check its availability 2nd week of Aug.)
Re sandwich board. To keep it safe, house it each evening. Anyone have a used dolly to make moving it easier?
Friends of HPL Banner – Beth is making one! We WILL reimburse her.
Coffee House: modify to less involved/costly offerings. Human Library. Home concerts or in collaboration with Newport and Pittsfield.
MSL grant – David will continue to research this.
Summerfest: Beth will offer Giant Bubbles.
Capital Campaign – See sheet Beth brought to meeting.
Cub Scouts will weed the library gardens!
