Friends of HPL Meeting
Present: Nick Berry, Kathie Clark, Jen Mabee, Tim Rowe, and Irene White
Call to order
Meeting began @ 6:05 pm, ended 7:10 pm
The 1/23/20 minutes were approved as read.
$35 received from dues. Balance now $2420.
Jen had sent reminders that dues are due.
Facebook and Instagram continue to get traffic.
Helen sends info to RTE and Chamber.
Field Day during school vacation was a success. 12 kids, 6 adults, played games, enjoyed snacks.
Story Time and Puppet Theater continue Saturdays.
Sewing with Patience continues Thursdays.
The Book Club meets the last Tuesday of each month. Current title: The Signature of All Things by Eliz. Gilbert. March: Code Girls by Liza Mundy.
Kids Craft March 21: I Spy boards. Bring odds and ends to HPL, or Mar. meeting.
Anna’s Little Buddy had small audience but great interaction and was much appreciated. Jeanine Deas is writing another book.
Read Maine: Nick’s professor from UMF is one of the authors. Last year’s discussion group included Newport and Pittsfield and us, and will again this year some time in the summer. Register in early March. Friends will vote on financing this at March meeting.
Book Box: Tiemer is working on it. It will be ready by 6/6, Hartland’s Bicentennial.
Loon Talk, Audubon Society, 5/13 @ 7 pm
Family Reading Carnival Sat., 4/11, 10:30 am – 1 pm. Volunteers are needed to sort books, pack lunches. See Ellie. Friends will have a table. Faith will play I Spy with kids.
Author Bette Stevens 4/21, 6:30 pm. We are encouraged to read her Maine Haiku.
KVCAP Update: KVCAP has purchased school and land from the town. HPL Board has voted to purchase our portion for $1 from KVCAP. Nick, Rusty, and Joanne are working to submit grants to raise $840,000.
Hartland Bicentennial: We may walk in the parade in historical costume or book character, carrying sign. Jen will let Stacy Halford know of our intent to participate. Other ideas welcome.
Dave Pelton from KVCAP will speak to Outlook Club on Thursday, 3/5, downstairs in HPL. All are invited to hear TIFF explained and have your questions answered.
SRP begins last week in June. The theme, Tell Your Story, compliments the Bicentennial celebration. Share your ideas with Nick.
Ukelele Group. There are groups in Waterville and Dexter, and interest in starting one here. Irene has invited the Dexter Group to give us a presentation. Date TBA.
