Beth sent us a thank-you card.
Maureen reports a balance of $2398.00. Beth donated $200 to Tiemer to build the library box. The next Board Treasurer is Mark Brooks.
SRP: Nick reports 40 children signed up and 20 finished. The finale was well attended, and prizes were awarded.
Story Hour and Puppet Shows are on-going. For snacks, apples would be good. Sweets tend to make the kids hyper.
Park Pass was used once. Nick will order this earlier next year and advertise it more, especially in the schools.
Kids Crafts: 8/24—Terraria with Lorretta McGee
9/21—Science Trunk, animal tracks
10/19—Beth will lead
Nov.—Science Trunk, paint
Dec.—decorate cookies with Jen
Sewing with Patience: Aiming for weekly meeting, planning to make small quilts for Hartland’s Christmas Fund. Donations of old blankets (or other material to use as quilt batting) would be appreciated. Also, does anyone have a sewing machine to leave downstairs in the library? Irene has one she can loan us. Thank you! Patience will email me, and I will inform Helen for the RTE.
Let’s Talk About It: will finish in Sep. Ellie reports that 8 or 9 people consistently participated. Dr. Kerksmar is an excellent facilitator. Nick will apply for this program again.
Helen continues to send write-ups to RTE. Liz and Nick keep HPL Facebook updated.
Liz and Beth met with Principal Ellen Suprenant, who is enthusiastic about connecting the K-Gr. 4 students with HPL. Liz hopes to meet this fall with her as well as Reading Specialist Mary Beth Schanck, and the other teachers.
Nick suggests having high school students fulfill their community service hours by tutoring their peers or younger students here.
Library card registration forms will be sent home with students (including those in HCS). Students will be invited to tour HPL with Nick, who would like also to offer monthly after-school games, for all ages. Anyone have games we can use? Volunteers Ellie, Jen, Libby, Lynn (others?) will resume reading at Somerset Elementary in Oct.
The Yard Sale was a success. Let’s make it an annual event.
Tiemer is in the process of building the Library Box. Ellie will check his progress.
Bylaws need updating. Ellie, (Jen), and Kathie will revisit them and present them for a vote next time.
The Annual Meeting will be October 17th. Current and potential Friends please come.
Ellie will consult Wayne: How best may Friends and Board communicate? Minutes? Quarterly report?
Nick needs another adult to supervise every other Sat. games with teens, 2-5 pm. Maureen and Kathie volunteer to be on call.
Patience mentions her neighbor, Gail Bailey, is a poet. Perhaps she will present a program for us.
